The Wensleydale Creamery, based at Hawes in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, has teamed up with Yorkshire’s rising star and award-winning pastel artist, Lucy Pittaway, to host an ongoing art exhibition at its Visitor Centre.

The Lucy Pittaway exhibition, which opened to visitors this week, features pieces from the iconic ‘The Cows’, ‘The Sheep’ and ‘Cycling and Le Tour’ collections, and is currently on display in the 1897 Coffee Shop at The Wensleydale Creamery.

Crowned the UK’s ‘Up & Coming Artist of the Year‘ by the Fine Art Trade Guild, Lucy is most renowned for her sheep-themed collection. Her art is inspired by the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, and depicts her daily life, family and experiences. Lucy has been named official artist for the Tour de Yorkshire for a second year running.

David Hartley, Managing Director of The Wensleydale Creamery, said: “Lucy shares our pride and passion of Yorkshire and the beautiful Dales landscape, and we are honoured to join forces to exhibit her beautiful collection of artwork here at The Wensleydale Creamery.”

The Creamery will be one of the first places the public can view a special print of Lucy’s artwork for the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire, from the 22nd March.

Visitors to the 1897 Coffee Shop will be able to sit back and relax in a stunning location, as they enjoy the iconic Yorkshire artwork. With spectacular panoramic views of the Yorkshire Dales, The Creamery’s Coffee Shop provides the perfect backdrop for viewing the collections. Visitors can enjoy the ultimate taste of Yorkshire too – whether that be Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese on toast, home-made cakes and pastries, or teas and coffees made and served with local Wensleydale milk. Lucy’s artwork is available to purchase from The Creamery’s Gift Shop.

Lucy Pittaway said: “Home to the famous Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese and located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, The Wensleydale Creamery is the ideal place to showcase my artwork which pays tribute to the stunning Yorkshire Dales countryside.

“I am delighted to have been chosen to represent God’s Own County once again and connect people to the Tour de Yorkshire, capturing the spirit of the iconic race and the imagination of the visitors and locals alike. Lucy Pittaway named Official Artist of the Tour de Yorkshire 2017 Posted on 28 Feb 15:28

One of Yorkshire’s rising stars of the art world has been unveiled as the official artist for the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire.

Richmond-based pastel artist Lucy Pittaway is the UK Fine Art Trade Guild’s current ‘Up and Coming Artist of the Year’, and this is the second consecutive year she has been chosen by Welcome to Yorkshire to create a piece of art designed to capture the imagination of the people of Yorkshire, and the spirit of the race.

Last year Lucy used soft pastels, blended onto canvass by hand, to create an incredibly vibrant picture entitled ‘Hills, Dales and Woolly Tails’ which depicted the excitement, endurance and tenacity of the race, set against the unique Yorkshire backdrop with an eager crowd of fluffy sheep spectators, for which she has become famous.

The official picture for 2017 - currently in progress - will be a significant departure from last year’s piece whilst still paying tribute to the Yorkshire countryside and industrial townscapes that are so synonymous with the county.

The official picture will be unveiled at Welcome to Yorkshire’s Y17 event at the York Theatre Royal on Tuesday 21 March. Between now and then, both Welcome to Yorkshire and Lucy will release a series of teasers on the Tour de Yorkshire’s social media channels which will include images and videos of Lucy creating the artwork. A competition will also be launched giving people the chance to win a copy of the official picture.

Lucy Pittaway said: “Living and working in Yorkshire, I was so proud to be part of last year’s Tour de Yorkshire, and delighted to create a piece of art that so many people have used to remember such a fun and vibrant three days in our region.

“To be able to work with Welcome to Yorkshire again and create another piece that connects art lovers with the 2017 race is incredibly exciting. The pressure is on once again on to create an image that does our stunning county justice!”

Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “We are thrilled to have Lucy back on board as the official artist of the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire. She really embraced the race last year and our partnership proved a huge success.

“We can’t wait to see the artwork for this year’s race as it is always vibrant, colourful and full of life, and really captures the essence of our great county.”
